Benedetto Tarantino

Born in 1981 in Palermo, where he lives and works. He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture with a thesis in photography entitled Dal terrain vague alla genial location. In 2009 he collaborates as assistant with professor Giovanni Chiaramonte of Milan on several occasions. In 2010 he was invited by the Municipality of Tarragona (Spain) as the official photographer of the religious feast of Santa Tecla. In 2011 he took part in a photo-report Workshop held by National Geographic photographer’s Reza Deghati. In August 2012 he curates the group exhibition Sicilia Fotografia contemporanea with over seventy of the most important Sicilian photographers. He realizes still life for the book Cucina in tempo di crisi. In 2014 he teaches in a photo lab for psychic patients with the purpose to see with their photos. In June and September he won two national competitions organized by the Parallelozero photo agency in Milan. In September he is the speaker of the seminar Il paesaggio siciliano: dalla pittura alla fotografia at the Faculty of Architecture in Palermo. In 2015 he is a speaker during the study day Il magnifico segno, la città contemporanea with other photographers, philosophers and anthropologists. Participates at the Fuori Salone in Milan with a common project on cement design and photography. In the same year started the collaboration with the English portal The thinking Traveller becomes the reference photographer for all the houses and all the places in Sicily. In December he took care of the photo campaign for the worldwide launch on social network of the bitter Averna. In October, he is a speaker during the Urban Thinkers Campus by Google. In 2016, together with other photographers, started a research on the territory of their city that will then become a photographic set of the book Parchi Infrastrutture Città. In 2017 he is called by Giunti Editore of Florence to photograph Sicily and its stories and to portray the chefs and the recipes that are part of the excellence of Le Soste di Ulisse association which also includes Michelin-starred restaurants for the book Sicilia continente gastronomico, i grandi chef e la tradizione. In October he took part in the birth of Buganvì becoming the curator for the photo gallery. In 2018 he began a collaboration with the two-Michelin starred chef Ciccio Sultano in Ragusa. Started a collaboration with the Engel & Vöelkers agency to photograph properties in Palermo and its province. In March, he photographs for AirItaly. In June he was called by CoopCulture to photograph the entire Salinas museum in Palermo and part of his archaeological collection. From August he works for the historic Tasca D’Almerita winery to document the harvest in Mozia, Sallier de la tur, Capofaro, Regaleali and Etna. In 2019 he was chosen by the Wine Enthusiast magazine of New York to create a reportage on Palermo. In July he takes the photographs for the historic Palermo hotel Excelsior Palace and always in the same month he goes to Taormina to photograph the five star luxury hotel The Ashbee, he also photographs the starred restaurant St. George by chef Heinz Beck.
