The Van den Berg spice factory was founded in Graz in 2018 by Oswald Held and Manfred van den Berg. Even before that, Manfred, who comes from a Dutch family, offered workshops on spices and their history. In 2017, at one of these events, he met Oswald, a descendant of seafaring families from Java and Indonesia who traded in spices in the 19th and 20th centuries. This encounter inspired Oswald to come up with the idea of a spice factory, which was eventually founded under the Dutch family name “van den Berg” . In 2020, Manfred left the company to pursue a different path in life. However, the Van den Berg spice factory continues to pursue the culinary vision of intense moments of taste with a constantly growing team, a lot of heart and energy.
