This new project in Shanghai is located in Feng Sheng Li, a renovated residential area built in a style called “shikumen.” In the center of the store, there is a space modeled after a Chinese four-section courtyard. That bright space is reminiscent of sunlight, and using traditional Shanghai bricks made the kitchen counter area seem to incorporate the outdoors. The front and back areas, flanking the courtyard, are designed with white box seating spaces illuminated by warm lights. These create a rhythmically long, vertical space.
The space is divided by voluminous box benches and plantings, thus an ally-like road merges inside the store, this structure enables customers to walk along the paths and enjoy the merchandise display scattered throughout the store. On the exterior, a new white gate evoking the identity of % Arabica, welcomes customers to step inside and immerse themselves in this unique design of the store.
