Costa Coffee, Al Seef, Dubai – United Arab Emirates

Project description

Welcome to a fascinating journey where tradition meets contemporary design! We’re excited to share with you a remarkable project that marries the old with the new in a unique and inspiring way. This is the story of Costa Coffee’s latest flagship store in Al Seef, Dubai, a creation that’s as much about honoring heritage as it is about offering a fresh, modern experience.

Rooted in the rich Bedouin heritage, the design of this new outlet is inspired by Al Sadu, a traditional weaving practice. Located in the heart of Dubai Creek, a historical trade route crucial to the development of the Emirate, the store is a tribute to the area’s vibrant history and culture.
Breaking away from the brand’s usual modern style, this new Costa Coffee outlet is a testament to a more thoughtful and environmentally conscious approach to design. Spearheaded by FINCH creative director Emma Stinson, who grew up in the UAE, the store is a blend of her childhood memories wandering the Creek and visiting old markets. At 50 square meters, it’s a space where modern Costa Coffee meets eclectic elements that reflect the café’s surroundings and heritage.
The interior of the store is a homage to both Al Sadu and the Emirati pearl divers. It features raw, unfinished materials like rammed earth and clay-like walls that resonate with Al Sadu’s patterns and prints, while still aligning with the modern Costa Coffee brand colors and guidelines.
The store boasts a mix of modern Costa furniture and custom-designed chairs, reminiscent of the boats used by pearl divers, adorned with hawser rope. This element ties back to the Al Sadu theme, featured in the ceiling design and dividers. The window banquette nods to the traditional majlis, while modern pearl-inspired lighting and brass frames create a striking contrast between modern and traditional elements.

Costa Coffee Al Seef Interior Design project is a representation of duality – a global brand housed in a space that is far from traditional yet deeply connected to historical context. It’s where the past and present converge, creating a unique and inviting atmosphere for customers.
At the heart of this new Costa Coffee store in Al Seef, Dubai, lies a celebration of heritage and a commitment to innovative design. It’s more than just a coffee shop; the interior design is a space where stories of the past are interwoven with the fabric of modern life, offering a truly unique experience to all who visit.
