At Hunan Satélite, we create environments and experiences through the design, architecture, art, vegetation, and lighting of spaces. Hunan Satélite is a restaurant located in Plaza Satélite, one of Mexico’s first shopping centers, designed by Juan Sordo Madaleno in 1971.
In 2020, Parque Plaza Satélite was inaugurated, a transformation project turning a parking lot into a commercial park with restaurants and amenities.
From the exterior, the restaurant presents itself as a discreet volume that gives few clues about what lies inside. Cuaik CDS seeks to create experiences and diverse atmospheres through the architecture, art, vegetation, and lighting of interior spaces.
The main dining area is arranged around four booths integrated into the architecture. Three sculptural luminaires, referencing designs from ancient Chinese costumes, mark the center of the space. On the terrace, the selection of materials, vegetation, and hanging lamps reflect the elegant style established in Grupo Hunan’s first restaurant in 1993.
Furniture and lighting play a significant role in the interior space design, particularly in restaurants, as each typology contributes a distinct experience, even within the same area. Another factor influencing the restaurant’s experiential creation was the emphasis on artistic integration. Murals by Leo Marz and K de Kilo, paintings by Teresa Cuaik, and a sculpture by Umana add value to the interior architecture.
Hunan Satélite exemplifies comprehensive architecture enclosed within walls that invite a variety of experiences related to traditional Chinese cuisine, art, and contemporary design.
