Based in Hawthorn, it’s the creation of ex-Coda chef Joane Yeoh and co-founder of South Yarra patisserie Luxbite Bernard Chu. Together, they’re handcrafting a unique set of flavours inspired by their trips abroad.A futuristic design echoes the boundary pushing flavours the two pastry chefs are presenting.The slim heritage facade on Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn might be discreet, but inside Kōri is anything but, with a dramatic two-tone paint job – half crisp white, half vibrant coral.Owners Joane Yeoh and Bernard Chu, both pastry chefs, met a decade ago working at South Yarra patisserie LuxBite. Kori is the friends’ way of indulging their love of Japan.The new shop is a joint venture between former Masterchef guest chef and dessert specialist, Bernard Chu (LuxBite) and trailblazing Melbourne chef, Joane Yeoh (Press Club, Tonka, Coda (Finalist: Good Food Guide 2022 Young Chef of the Year).
