La Estrella, Panamà – Panama

Project description

In Latin America, music is the most authentic form of cultural expression.
Each city pulses with its own sonic identity, but there’s a common thread: music is the language that reflects the authenticity of its people and its streets.
At Barra La Estrella, interior design is not merely spatial construction; it’s a visual and sensory composition that transmits the vibrant essence of Latin culture.
Bad Bunny said it best: “Now everybody wants to be Latino, but they’re missing the flavor, the drums, and the reggaetón.”
That’s not just a statement of pride—it’s a fact. Being Latino is a multisensory experience. You feel it in your ears, dance it with your feet, and sing it with your heart. With that in mind, the design concept for Barra La Estrella wasn’t just about aesthetics; it was conceived as a tribute to sound and rhythm.
The anatomy of this place was built under the logic and metaphor of music. It was composed with melody, harmony, and expression. Each element was imagined as an instrument that contributes to the interior design of the space:
Melody is interpreted as the spatial composition—a place inspired by diverse influences that together form a unique and harmonious whole.
Expression emerges through the creation of two distinct ambiences, each with its own sonic and emotional identity:
The first floor is the introduction. A bar that captures the soul of Latin homes, where hospitality sets the rhythm and the design evokes the warmth of a house where there’s always music playing in the background.
The second floor is the climax. A space conceived as a temple of celebration, where sound and design fuse to create an immersive experience, exalting the festive spirit and passion at the heart of Latin culture.
And finally, harmony—which in this context is not just about design, but about intention:
The lamps above the bar evoke vintage 70s microphones, capturing the golden age of bolero and salsa.
The geometry and materiality of certain elements echo old jukeboxes, recalling the spaces where generations first discovered music.
The speakers embedded in the furniture serve not only a decorative purpose, but reinforce the idea that atmosphere is layered—like a musical composition.
Sometimes, design becomes sound. At Barra La Estrella, it goes beyond the visual—it’s an experience you hear, feel, and live.
A tribute to the rhythm that defines Latin identity, where every texture, color, and form carries its own cadence. Because if music is the most authentic expression of our culture, then this space is its tangible echo.
