La Migueria, Viva Envigado, Medellin – Colombia

Project description

Design that Highlights Tradition and the Sensory Experience

La Miguería is a family-owned bakery and pastry shop founded in 2011 in Medellín. Over the years, it has solidified its presence in the city through multiple carefully developed points of sale. One of its most recent openings, located in the expansion of the Viva Envigado shopping mall, is part of Jardín Nómada, an environment designed for coworking and social interaction, where architecture and nature converge to offer a unique sensory experience.
The design of this new space needed to address two fundamental objectives: to preserve La Miguería’s intimate identity while adapting to the dynamics of its context. To achieve this, a visually permeable environment was conceived, inviting users to explore the space and immerse themselves in a unique and relaxed experience.
The project is organized around a strategic layout that optimizes the fluidity and versatility of the space. Various areas for onsite consumption were incorporated, creating a welcoming atmosphere adaptable to diverse needs—ranging from individual moments of enjoyment to group gatherings or collaborative workspaces.
To achieve this flexibility, a closed volume was designed at one end of the space, housing production, storage, and service areas. This solution, developed over two levels, not only optimizes operational efficiency but also enhances the perception of openness in the rest of the space.
The circulation flow is defined by a line of service furniture that organizes the display, payment, and delivery stations, naturally guiding the purchasing process and reinforcing the connection between the store’s entrances.
The main hall is divided into two areas by a linear garden, which, along with a change in the flooring design, creates a subtle differentiation in the pathways and user experiences. This plant element not only brings freshness to the space but also serves as a spatial connector, structuring the seating area for groups.
One of the most distinctive features of the design is the integration of a tiered seating area attached to the closed volume, which introduces a change in the space’s height and allows users to enjoy a panoramic view of the surroundings. Designed especially for those using Jardín Nómada as a coworking space, the tiered seating includes ergonomic tables and power outlets, providing a functional solution for collaborative work.
Each piece of furniture was custom-designed to respond to the specific geometric qualities of the space, maximizing its spatial efficiency. The result is a bakery that, beyond its independent operation, offers a carefully crafted environment for relaxation, social connection, and the appreciation of La Miguería’s artisanal products.
