Stepping into Mui Kee Congee is like stepping through a portal into the vibrant heart of Mongkok, where the story first began in 1979. Our design for the Singapore outpost is a loving tribute to Mui Kee’s rich heritage – a visual and sensory narrative that connects diners to the essence of tradition, taste, and time.
The concept draws inspiration from the humble beginnings of traditional Hong Kong congee stalls, infused with a taste of the ocean – the lifeblood of Mui Kee’s signature ingredients. At its core, the space is designed to be immersive and nostalgic, yet subtly refined. A striking red signboard anchors the space, echoing the familiar charm of Hong Kong street markets, while blue accents offer a crisp contrast, reminiscent of the sea. Delicate fish motifs swim across surfaces, paired with playful mahjong elements that evoke a sense of cultural playfulness and familiarity. All of this is set against a warm canvas of natural timber, creating a comforting, home-like ambience.
Located at 360 Balestier Rd, Mui Kee is not merely a restaurant – it is a sensory journey. Here, the spotlight remains firmly on the congee: rich, silky, and soul-warming. This is comfort food reimagined – steeped in tradition, served with a modern twist, and wrapped in design that tells a story worth savouring.
