After 32 years of experience in cooking with embers and wood, the ow- ners of Mussol Restaurant have opted for Carlos Martinez Interiors to de- sign a new space specially designed for their operation in the center of the city of Barcelona, a restaurant specialized in embers with a sophistica- ted, modern and impressive environment.
We wanted to enhance the essence of details, comfort and a cozy envi- ronment in a place with the typically rustic atmosphere of steakhouses.
Mussol, Owl in Catalan, conceptually aims to be the place where these birds live in a natural environment. Their plumages, tones and colors have been studied to find similes in terms of the choice of materials that are in- corporated in the design of the local. It is a multipurpose space that is in operation from 12 until dinner. This intention, together with the objective of transmitting the spirit of the ember kitchen (studded fire pillars with metal grates simulating the grill), its colors and textures has guided the concept of the design of the space, transmitted through the chromatic range. In the same way that we have designed some luminaires hugging the central wrought iron pillars, winking at the cages of these birds of prey.
Tones of zebra wood have been chosen, with their marked veins that remind us of the plumage that this bird has, exotic marbles that remind us, together with the vegetation, of a jungle, natural and wild space; the ash pavements that take us to the ashes of the embers, and the pillars with reddish stucco fire from the burning embers like the thread ducts of the project, in addition, brushstrokes have been given with greenish tones present with the vegetation and the cove- rings of some of the walls of the establishment, dressed with enormous iron shelves that hold purely Catalan bottles and jugs.
While in the interior room, the wooden floor gives it a warm and comfortable atmosphere, the oak carpentry provides sophistication, more typical of the ur- ban center in which it is located. To cover the bar, a mixture of the two selected woods, zebrawood and oak, was chosen with vertical wooden uprights, which provide dynamism and accompany the diner as they enter the premises.
On the interior plastered walls of the room, we find photographs of the people who have marked the history of Mussol, cooks, directors, etc., who manage to transmit tradition, the homely and family atmosphere as well as character and distinction to the entire space.
