Project description

The restaurant design process was initiated in collaboration with the Preservation Board after the historical aspects of the ancient inn were restored. Located in Fatih, the oldest district of Istanbul, our primary focus was on fulfilling the client’s aesthetic requirements while safeguarding the historical integrity and scenic vistas. The design process began with a deep appreciation for the site’s historical significance and a commitment to preserving its unique characteristics. Fatih, renowned for its rich cultural heritage and historical landmarks, provided a unique backdrop that necessitated a careful and respectful approach to design. Our initial criteria, prior to commencing the design process, were to fulfill all restaurant requirements in a manner that would not compromise the historical structure or obstruct the view of the building’s historical features. The most challenging aspect of the job was to conceive an elegant restaurant with a functional kitchen, bar, and service area seamlessly integrated as part of the structure without altering its historic fabric. Balancing modern functionality with historical preservation required innovative thinking and meticulous planning. We aimed to create a space that honored the building’s past while meeting contemporary standards for dining and hospitality. This involved extensive research into historical construction methods and materials, ensuring that any additions or modifications would be in harmony with the original architecture. Our efforts in developing lighting and acoustic scenarios for the restaurant, operating throughout the day, significantly influenced the spatial layout and design. This comprehensive approach has transformed the venue into a versatile space suitable for hosting private events, exhibitions, and catering to hotel guests, ensuring an enjoyable experience at any time of day. The lighting design was carefully crafted to highlight the architectural features of the historic inn, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Acoustic treatments were integrated to enhance the dining experience, ensuring that the space remained comfortable and conducive to conversation. The result is a restaurant that not only serves delicious food but also provides a memorable experience, with the historical ambiance seamlessly blending with modern amenities. By preserving the scenic vistas and historical integrity, we have created a space that celebrates the rich history of Fatih while providing a functional and aesthetically pleasing environment for patrons. This project stands as a testament to our commitment to preserving cultural heritage while meeting the demands of contemporary design.
