Olivetta, Melrose, Los Angeles – USA

Project description

Olivetta draws inspiration from the whimsical and theatrical elegance of the western Mediterranean and benefits from a healthy dose of West Hollywood vibrancy and exuberance. Designed to provide a great brunch spot, high end restaurant, and late-night cocktail and supper club Olivetta has quickly become a Melrose Avenue staple. The series of four adjoining spaces each have a unique atmosphere yet tie together seamlessly through the use of consistent details and finishes. The lounge and sun-drenched courtyard sit to the front of the site with the bar and formal dining room to the rear. Guests enter through an ivy clad arch into a reclaimed terracotta walkway. A feature circular bar counter punctuates the lounge and bar wall and helps to activate both spaces. These rooms are clad in sumptuous mohair velvet wall panelling adding an additional layer of softness and quality to the scheme. The dining bar to the rear of the space is elegantly illuminated by a backlit fabric ceiling reminiscent of French Riviera destinations and hand-blown glass wall lights manufactured locally. Later in the evening the bar itself transitions into a stage for live music and cabaret with this space becoming the post dinner hub of the restaurant.Perhaps the highlight of the design is the formal dining room that features a gold leaf wallpaper depicting local flora and fauna made specifically for the project by London based artist Adam Ellis. This space is illuminated throughout the daytime by the full-length skylight and at night by the bespoke glass wall lights that softly illuminating the mural wallpaper. Under the skylight sits a central planter that supports bespoke, oversized, tassel laden table lights and is wrapped by four communal banquettes.
