A state of expansion of the heart similar to a flower opening in all its fragrance to the world.In the East, the open lotus flower is used as a symbol to describe enlightenment.Even then, enlightenment cannot come through a simple cognitive understanding of “Reality as it is” but as a direct experience of it.This experience comes through Love and is of the same nature as Love.The lotus flower sinks its roots into the mud, into the slime; the stem goes through all the stagnant and putrid waters but the flower opens up immaculately above the putrid waters and the slime.This enlightenment then is a ‘going beyond’ the ‘muddy state’ without denying it, but rather sinking the roots into it.This reminds us that the state of purity is not detached from the sometimes muddy and stagnant world in which we find ourselves, but is part of it.We do not have to wait to be happy to be happy: happiness is a choice.
