The Gambit Bar, Vail – USA

Project description

The renovation of Gambit Bar, formerly known as The Frost Bar, transforms it into the perfect space for relaxation and socializing. Upon entering, guests will feel as if they’ve arrived at an ideal spot to sit by the fireplace, savor a favorite cocktail, and enjoy the best music. Inspired by the mysterious and sophisticated character of Nini Gambit, the bar offers a seamless transition from day to night, embodying a blend of rustic charm and modern elegance.
Our design draws inspiration from Nini Gambit, a mysterious gentleman (fictional) who enjoys spending his afternoons in a sophisticated setting after a day on the slopes. As Gambit sips his old-fashioned scotch in a padded lounge chair, he observes the lively crowd by the bar, creating an ambiance of refined leisure that is unique to Gambit Bar.
The central architectural change is the addition of a fireplace, creating a focal point that draws people in from the outside and serves as a gathering spot within. This feature enhances the warmth and inviting nature of the space.
The decor features a continuous booth design, fostering an integrated and smooth feel. Rustic materials combined with varied textures create a cozy atmosphere. The color palette includes warm, earthy tones to enhance the inviting ambiance. The bar area will be transformed with sophisticated materials and illuminated bottles, providing an attractive view from the lobby.
To enhance the overall experience, we emphasized the seamless integration of the bar with the hotel lobby, sophisticated yet functional design, and the reuse of existing materials to maintain a connection to the original Frost bar. Warm lighting and live country music further enrich the atmosphere, making Gambit Bar a destination for both regulars and new visitors.
Key challenges included adapting pre-existing elements to the new design and managing the project remotely from Mexico. Utilizing existing booths and installations required creative solutions to maintain functionality and aesthetics while adhering to a sustainable approach.
The renovation increased seating capacity and generated excitement and curiosity even before opening. The new design has successfully attracted both recurring and new customers, enhancing the bar’s appeal through innovative yet respectful use of existing materials and space.
The use of sound-absorbing wallpaper, despite budget constraints, and the reuse of existing materials and booths, showcases our innovative approach. These choices not only elevated the bar’s aesthetic but also contributed to a more sustainable and functional design.
