Designed as its first brick and mortar location, Third Cliff Bakery anchors and activates the corner of a new mixed-use development at a busy corner along Washington Street in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston. Starting out as a mobile coffee cart, Third Cliff made its mark on the community and was in need of a larger cafe and kitchen space. The bakery is dedicated to making tasty treats, blending classic pastry techniques with surprising flavors; such as kimchi cheddar cheese croissants or rosemary lemonade.
Inside, a warm and light filled space is carefully articulated with custom birch plywood millwork to form the heart of the café. The heart organizes the cafe into three distinct seating zones for individuals or smalls groups. The shelving above displays plants and merchandise, then wraps down to become the service counter. The heart acts as the central hub to engage employees and customers alike, fostering an open sense of community where one of many innovative baked goods can be enjoyed.
Inspired by Third Cliff Beach in Scituate, MA, the bakery also features an intricate crashing wave mural along the larger dining zone wall. The various shades of blue play gently with the light-warm wood and green vegetation. The mix of these colors creates a sophisticated and vibrant atmosphere, reflecting its equally spirited and delicious menu.
