Verandah, Jabalpur – India

Project description

Nestled in the heart of the cultural town of jabalpur in madhya pradesh, the old residence stands as a testament to the beautiful fusion of old design elements and cotemporary material.
This house seamlessly blends diverse styles and themes, creating a warm and welcoming space that captures the essence of both heritage and modern aesthetics. The architectural marvel of this house is a true reflection of creativity and craftsmanship.
Aayadi was commissioned to provide full services for this vintage café (115-year- old) of area 3000 sqft in the city centre of jabalpur. The design concept for this restaurant was contemporary with influences from heritage. As you step into the house, you’re greeted by an open living area adorned with antiques. The central courtyard steals the spotlight, with an open-to-sky design allowing natural light and gentle breezes to caress the space. A central false tree adds a touch of vintage charm, while the flooring, a blend of moroccan, lends a natural and outdoor feel. The warm atmosphere is showcased in the materials, elegant forms, and shapes throughout the space, and artistic statements are found within the old structure.

Aayadi aimed to create a welcoming, comfortable atmosphere for a young, creative, and vibrant community. Accent lighting, subtle detailing frame the design in all areas of the cafe enhancing the space for the user. Materials such as terrazzo, brick cladding, old wood surfaces, rusted walls give you the sense that you are a part of an old structure where you can act and create.
The name verandah was chosen to show the character of space. A space full of creativity and creative people. During daylight, there is complete transparency from the inside of the restaurant design whereas from the outside visitors see an opaque volume. As the night falls we have the inverse situation. The sliding glass panels allow a wide open access from the platform and natural cross-ventilation. Functional seating, an attractive waiting area, glass & landscape offer guests a variety of spatial experiences. The lights extend to the front-facing façade of the old structure defining a new visual focus in the busy street arousing the curiosity of guests to explore space. Fine dining restaurant and cafe.
The common thread of rich classic contemporary style is evoked through the distinctive colour palette of the restaurant. The bold hue of deep red is complemented by white and is accentuated by the wooden wall shelves and dark brown-toned furniture. The pendant lights evoked old colonial charm that complements the theme of the restaurant. A few greens along with vintagemetallic accents have also been introduced as quaint details enunciating a regal atmosphere. One of the key components of the design is the lighting. In addition to ambient and general lighting, we also pay close attention to task lighting to ensure that productivity is not at all hindered by creating vibrant, classic spaces that serve as one-of-a-kind settings for celebratory occasions, elegant dining.
The space is flooded with rustic art and tropical-themed wallpaper on a huge wall enhanced with a yellow-beige theme. The tropical mural catches your eye as soon as you enter the verandah. Continuity and illusion have been created through glass.grand space with intricate elements enhances this old beauty.
Verandah is not merely a house; it’s an artful fusion that encapsulates the beauty of diverse age group and period.
