Yung’s Bistro at Taikoo Place, a project envisioned by the interior design duo Lim + Lu, epitomizes the seamless blend of heritage and modernity. Situated within the dynamic Two Taikoo Place, this 2000 sqft space stands as a bold variant from its predecessors, exuding a distinctive charm that captivates the senses.
Immersed in a captivating shade of dusty rose, the interior narrative unfolds a tale of reimagined tradition. Walls adorned with original Yung Kee tiles from 1978, now elegantly dipped in dusty rose, pay homage to the restaurant’s storied past while embracing a fresh aesthetic.
The client’s brief was that each iteration of Yung’s Bistro is a singular entity, a tribute to individuality within a shared lineage. Inspired by the iconic Yung Kee, these spaces embody a spirit of innovation and reinvention that is both timeless and contemporary.
The dusty rose palette weaves a rich tapestry of textures and materials, from textured plaster to bespoke tiles, creating an ambiance that is intriguing yet relaxing for the senses. Noteworthy are the two expansive custom Lalacurio wallpapers, meticulously hand-painted with whimsical scenes of geese, honouring the culinary delights synonymous with Yung Kee.
With the original space divided into two floor levels, the design navigated spatial challenges with a seamless ramp that connects the kitchen and front of house, ensuring operational efficiency without compromising on aesthetics. To enhance the dining experience, plush carpets and soft surfaces dampen noise levels, enveloping patrons in a cocoon of comfort.
Versatility lies at the heart of this design narrative. Movable panels, adorned in sage green vinyl leather, redefine spatial boundaries, transforming the area into 3 separate intimate VIP dining rooms or a spacious dining hall. Custom Lalacurio wallpapered doors discreetly house these panels when not in use, blending functionality with elegance seamlessly.
Adjacent to the central bar, a welcoming lounge area invites relaxation and social interaction. Whimsical banquettes line the walls, offering intimate retreats within the bustling ambiance. The harmonious contrast of dusty rose and deep green infuses the space with sophistication, adorning everything from skirting to seating with a touch of contemporary flair.
Yung’s Bistro at Taikoo Place extends its charm outdoors with a spacious seating area adorned in chic black and white rattan furniture. This al fresco space offers a stylish retreat for guests to enjoy cocktails or a leisurely afternoon tea, seamlessly blending with the interior ambiance curated by Lim + Lu. It provides a unique setting within Two Taikoo Place where patrons can relish in the culinary and design fusion of the bistro.
Yung’s Bistro at Taikoo Place emerges as a daring connection between tradition and innovation, past and present. Here, the enduring legacy of Yung Kee converges with Lim + Lu’s vision, embodying the boundless spirit of culinary creativity and design excellence.
